Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane

We join together to create an inspiring and nourishing liberal religious home. In the wider world, we champion justice, diversity, and environmental stewardship.

Religious Education
for Children & Youth

Welcome!

We are very excited about our Religious Education (RE) Program!  We hope you and your family are as excited as we are.  We have a wonderful group of volunteer teachers who are working with the future leaders of this church and Unitarian Universalism.  They are the most important people in this church, because of their mission – to provide the children, the future leaders of this church, an inspiring and nourishing liberal religious home where they will learn the Principles of Unitarian Universalism and become champions of justice, diversity, and environmental stewardship.  We are committed to providing a full  and rewarding Religious Education program for the children and youth in our church family, and look forward to many valuable experiences working together to make our dreams a reality.

Our Philosophy of Children &Youth Religious Education

Liberal Religious Education:

  • Is centered on the individual.  All have different needs and are at different stages of life. We affirm the worth and dignity of each person.
  • Builds community.  We seek to provide a sense of belonging, acceptance, warmth, and caring.
  • Promotes liberal religion.  We educate youth about our Unitarian Universalist heritage.  We teach and practice our Unitarian Universalist Principles.
  • Develops the whole person.  We recognize faith is of the heart and the mind, and it motivates our actions.  We appreciate that science and reason, myth and ritual are equally important.
  • Affirms the primary importance of the family in religious education.  We recognize that religious education is a life-long process.

Religious Education Council

The Religious Education Council represents and serves the congregation to ensure a safe and respectful religious education program for our children and youth, which reflects the values and principles of Unitarian Universalism and builds a sense of belonging within the greater church community.

For more information about the Council, contact Diane Huigen, Director of Religious Education, at 509-325-6383 ext 306 or re@uuspokane.org.
