Kindergarten through 2nd Grade:
Creating Home — This curriculum is a journey of inward reflections and outward actions of faith, open to stories and beliefs from different lands and people. This program helps children develop a sense of home that is grounded in faith. The program speaks of home as a place of belonging and explores the roles each of us play in the homes where we live. It introduces the concept of a “faith home” — our congregation —which shares some characteristics with a family home. The sessions include stories from UU and other traditions, hands-on activities to make learning accessible to individuals with various learning styles, and structured opportunities for questioning, reflecting, and self-expression.
Love Surrounds Us — This program explores all the Principles in the context of Beloved Community. It concentrates on the communities that are most recognizable to this age group — their Beloved Communities of family/home, school, neighborhood. Participants engage in activities that emphasize the love they feel in community. The UU Principles are introduced with opening activities and story. The processing through wonder questions are extremely important and allow children to see the Principles at work in the world. By the end of this curriculum, the children will be able to articulate all seven Principles, and know they are UUs and why, as the Principles help answer the question “Why do I belong?”
