General Information
Registration:
Registration for Religious Education classes begins the first Sunday after Labor Day and continues through June. Registration forms are used to update a family’s contact information, gives us information regarding any special needs a child might have, gives us vital health information, indicates if a child would like to be part of our children's choir, and lets us know how the parents would like to assist with our cooperative religious education program. The forms are available in the Religious Education Office.
Parent/Guardian Involvement:
We welcome involvement from parents/guardians in our Religious Education classes. We would love to have you teach, substitute, or assist in the classroom, or help plan special events such as our multigenerational services or our pageant. We also have nursery helpers each Sunday at the 11 am service, so you could volunteer to hold a baby. Other areas where you could volunteer are: making materials, or copying, painting or repairing furniture, helping with field trips and/or sleepovers, holiday parties, or phone calling.
Program Schedule:
Religious Education classes are held most Sundays year-round. Mid-September through mid-June we have a 9:15 am one-room schoolhouse. At 11am the classes are divided by grade level. This is explained in more detail later.
A few Sundays throughout the year we have multigenerational services where the children stay in the service with their parents. We provide quiet activities to keep them busy. From mid-June through the first of September we have a 10 am one-room schoolhouse with the theme “Famous UUs”.
Each Sunday children from Preschool through Sixth grade are invited to participate in the beginning of our church service. After the “Story for All Ages” portion of the service, children are invited to attend religious education classes. The Junior and Senior High youth go directly to their classrooms at 11:00 a.m. Religious Education classes are concurrent with the adult worship service and end at 10:45 am (first service) and 12:15 pm (second service).
Nursery:
The nursery is open for childcare every Sunday. Infants and toddlers from birth through age two are lovingly cared for by a professional adult childcare provider. We have an adult assistant during the 11 am worship service.
Teachers & Assistants:
Our teachers and assistants come from all walks of life. Some are parents, some are not. Some are professional educators; most have no teaching experience before becoming religious educators. All are volunteers. Many volunteer because they love being with children and youth and want to have a positive effect on their growth and development. Others volunteer because they want to contribute to the life of the congregation and to learn more about Unitarian Universalism. We do not choose our volunteers based on educational level, marital status, gender, age, sexual orientation, race, ethnic background or theological belief.
